smart solutions to prevent water leakages

5 free or budget-friently ways to minimize the risk of flooding in your home

In recent years, we’ve seen more and more cases of flooding due to heavy rainfall and storms. With global warming, this trend only seems to be increasing causing more homeowners to experience water damage in the near future.

However, many homeowners don’t know how to secure their homes properly, partly because they haven’t been at risk until now.

There are, however, some fairly simple and wallet-friently things you can do to make sure your home won’t suffer from the next flooding or storm flood.

1. Gutter maintenance

Keep your gutters clean and free from debris to ensure proper drainage. Clogged gutters can lead to overflow, potentially causing flooding around your foundation.

Regularly inspect and clean your gutters – especially in the fall season after the leaves have fallen.

2. Check your downspouts

Before the rainy season, make sure your downspouts are clear, and consider adding downspout extenders. These can be bought fairly cheaply in hardware stores.

3. Safe roof and foundation

Inspect your roof and foundation for any damages or cracks that could allow water to seep in. You can find inexpensive sealants or waterproofing compounds to patch up these openings.

4. Sandbags and flood barriers

Keep a supply of sandbags or reusable flood barriers on hand for when heavy rain or a storm flood is forecasted.

5. Water leak detection

In case water does come into your home, it can save you a lot of money and frustrations to know about the leak as soon as possible so you can do something about it.

For this, get a water leak detector that will alert you as soon as it detects water.

The Water Leak Detector from frient not only emits a loud alarm if it detects water – it also immediately sends you a notification on your smartphone so you can react even if you are not home.

And you can even add a special probe that will alert you about hidden leakages in hard-to-reach parts of your home.

All you need, besides the Water Leak Detector, is a compatible smart home hub to be the link between the detector and your smartphone.
