Do I need a hub to connect frient devices? Here’s what you should know
The friently smart home devices communicate via Zigbee, a wireless communication protocol just like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.
But unlike Wi-Fi, Zigbee can’t communicate directly with your phone. It needs a hub to collect data from the frient devices and send it to your smartphone.
Compatible with leading smart home hubs
frient doesn’t have its own hub. Instead, our devices are compatible with many 3rd party hubs that enable you to build your smart home using products from many different brands.
Compatible hubs include:
- Homey: The Dutch company Homey offers an advanced smart home hub and app that lets you easily automate and control your home. And thanks to frient being a verified Homey partner, you can be sure the frients and Homey work together seamlessly.
- SmartThings: The friently sensors work with SmartThings, a leading smart home hub that aims to make your everyday life easier, safer, and more entertaining.
- Home Assistant: If you’re looking for a DIY smart home solution, Home Assistant is for you. It’s an open-source home automation platform with a global community of smart home enthusiasts that allows you to create your own integrations and set up a smart home exactly as you need it. frient is part of the Works with Home Assistant program to make sure all frients work well with Home Assistant.
The frient devices are also compatible with other hubs such as Eva Smart Home, Hubitat, Hornbach, or Homely.
